Getting Pokédex from Prof. Oak (Route 30)
Head North from CherryGrove City. You will reach a house on Route
30 with a tree outside. Get a Berry (heals 10 HP) from the tree and then
go inside the house and talk to the man to get another Berry. Continue
north and take the right path until you've reached an isolated house (upper
right corner of Route 30). On your way to Mr. Pokemon's house you may
encounter a new Pokémon. You will find Ledyba(#165) in the morning, and
Spinarak(#167, Night) at night. The tree outside of the house will give
you a Psncureberry. Inside the house Mr. Pokemon will give you a Mystery
Egg while Professor Oak will give you an advanced Pokédex. This advanced
Pokédex will allow you to display your list in three different ways. Just
press SELECT after you accessed your Pokédex to change the option. Before
you leave the house, Mr. Pokemon will heal your Pokémon for
you.

Trouble back at Prof. Elm's Lab
As soon as you leave Mr. Pokemon's house, you will get a call from
Prof. Elm. He will tell you that there is trouble in the lab, and you
should hurry back to New Bark Town. However, you will encounter the sneaky
guy just east of CherryGrove City. Apparently, he has stolen a Pokémon
from Prof. Elm's Lab and you will be in your first battle with him. His Pokémon
will always be the types with advantages over yours. However, the battle should
still be very easy as his Pokémon are still at beginning LV5. After you've won
the battle, head east back to New Bark Town.
New Bark Town
Things to get:
-
Pokéballs (from Prof. Elm's assistant in Prof. Elm's Lab)
Back
in New Bark Town
When you reach Prof. Elm's Lab, a cop will inform you about the
robbery and ask you to name the guy you just encountered. Then, Prof. Elm
will ask you to give him the Egg so he can study it. Before you leave, his
assistant will give you 5 Pokéballs. Now, you can start your Pokémon
journey.

Now, you should head back to CherryGrove City, then go North to
Route 30. This time, take the left path and you will engage in your first
trainer's battle. After you've won, you can get this trainer's number by
talking to him and he will call you for a rematch. Continue north and then
West to Violet City through Route 31 (Don't bother going into the Cave
yet). Pick up the two Itemballs on the grass. They contain Antidote
and Pokéball, respectively. You can obtain Bitterberry (cures confusion) from
the fruit bearing tree on this route. Also, make sure you catch a Bellsprout on
your way because someone is going to trade with you in Violet
City
